Padded Walls

Most of the recent work has not been the most picturesque -- electrical work just isn't very photogenic until the fixtures get installed (more on that later...) However, I did need a new electrical panel, as my old/original one wasn't nearly enough power to run a modern kitchen. Forrest installed it on Friday - before mentioning that "hopefully" I would have power after he finished, as the electrical company said it was OK to jumper the power. With some trepidation about the possibility of not having power all weekend, I was happy to see light when I got home on Friday. The new panel is behind the short ladder. Still waiting for the DWP to come and finish installing the meter. I also wanted to make sure I had a picture of the ramp up to the backdoor. Now that I no longer am carrying laundry down it, it is kind of fun!
I have been able to decide on the task lighting for the kitchen - the little spots that illuminate certain areas and make it much easier to work. Right now, the lights all work - they just aren't pointed the right way so it is kind of funny!
Today the guys came to install the insulation. I thought my house was noisy because of the new skylights - but it was quiet as can be when I got home tonight, and they hadn't even finished. I do feel a little like I'm in a padded cell, but later this week when the drywall goes up, that feeling should subside. I'm sure I'll never hear another airplane again!

Saturday was also a big house day. I spent several hours at the hardwood floor shop, trying to decide between way too many choices. Then off to buy a wine fridge (success at last!), followed by hours looking for light fixtures. Of course, I found one I loved, but it was outrageously expensive. (Cabinets or light fixtures - not a good either/or choice.) Then, I found one for the dining room I like, but it didn't come in the glass I wanted. Then, I found pendants for over the bar I like, but I can't find a dining room light that would go with them. ARGH. Off to peruse more lighting websites!
