Gophers Gone Wild

Work has been progressing well on the preparation to pour the foundation. With the luck of the stars and cooperation of the inspectors, that should happen next Tuesday. In the meantime, the forms have been made and the holes dug for the deck supports. I think the new part of my house will survive any possible disaster! So for now, it looks like gophers have gone wild.
The picture below shows my handiwork - I got home early one night to meet with Margaret and Forrest, but they were still working, so I had to help. My handiwork is shown below - my job was to stick the wedge things in the metal things that divide the boards. (Of course, there are official names for all these "things" but I forgot them!)
All this dirt came out of the holes they dug for the porch foundation. Forrest said he thought the city of LA was crazy to say the dirt was unstable and make them go down 24 inches - apparently, the dirt is really hard and they have been using a jackhammer to meet the requirements.
I'm hoping to work from home on Tuesday so I can see them pour!
